Police arrest Lilongwe head teacher for embezzling MSCE exams fees
Malawi Police in Lilongwe on Saturday arrested head teacher for Kondwani Private Secondary School at Chinsapo in the city for allegedly misappropriating examination fees from some learners for the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) Examinations currently underway.
Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Dandaula said the head teacher, Thomas Nkhuwa, 32, of Nkhuwa Village in the area of Chief Kalumba in Lilongwe district failed to pay examination fees amounting to K176, 400 for 19 learners.
According to Dandaula, Nkhuwa collected money from 76 learners and only remitted examination fees for 57 learners to Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB).
“An invigilator at the school discovered that 19 learners had no identity cards and when the issue was followed up it was discovered that the money was not paid to MANEB,” said Dandaula.
He also said the behavior is contrary to Section 14 sub section A of the MANEB Act.
