Police arrest mother, 4 others over the missing of albino boy

Malawi police say they have arrested the mother of the missing boy in Phalombe, the step father who confessed to have given him poison and three other close relations but his body is yet to be recovered.

Malawians living with albinism have concerns that, besides living in constant fear of being abducted or killed, they also endure painful ridicule as some citizens pour scorn on them.

Police spokesperson James Kadadzera said the police have since charged the five with conspiracy to murder and acts intending to commit murder.

“The arrested are all family members to missing 12 year boy Joseph Kachingwe. They are very close to Joseph,” said Kadadzera.

He said the mother, Mary Nankhusu is suspected to have taken part in the conspiracy to me murder Joseph.

Her husband, the step father who to Joseph, on Tuesday told the police that he poisoned Joseph before handing over his body to buyers who wanted his body parts.

The other arrested include Joseph’s aunts and uncles.

On Tuesday, the president of Association of People with Albinism (Apam) Overtone Kondowe expressed concern over the continued attacks of people with albinism by close relations.

“The rate at which people with albinism are attacked shows that there are lapses in the security systems of the people, this shows that the security systems of people with albinism are not working,” he said.

He said it was sad that the police were yet to recover the body.

Am appealing to the government of Malawi to create a camp for all albinos in Malawi, put them together and give them the tight security, I think this is the only solution to protect our brothers and sisters.

Who is the one who bought the body of the boy? Why arrest the step father and mother and the rest only why not the one who bought the body? The police is hiding something in these crimes. Some ones knows the racket and is skating around the truth. Tell us who was the person who bought the body?

Leadership leadership. It is all about making difficult decisions.

When you leaders don’t you abdicate your duty.

The perpetrators must hang and you have to sign it off.

It’s all about our new belief in “on the spot solutions”. Look at our TV and radio stations. It’s full of adverts about instant herbal magic for jobs, fertility, wealth, promotions at work, recalling a husband in a broken marriage, money multiplication, the list is endless. And you find these adverts even on the National Radio. So what do you think these herbalists are using in their juju? Albino body parts cannot be excluded. I read somewhere that on Tanzania they did away with the Albino problems by banning all witch doctors from advertising. Imagine in Malawi witch doctors advertise… Read more »
