Malawi police say they have arrested the mother of the missing boy in Phalombe, the step father who confessed to have given him poison and three other close relations but his body is yet to be recovered.
Police spokesperson James Kadadzera said the police have since charged the five with conspiracy to murder and acts intending to commit murder.
“The arrested are all family members to missing 12 year boy Joseph Kachingwe. They are very close to Joseph,” said Kadadzera.
He said the mother, Mary Nankhusu is suspected to have taken part in the conspiracy to me murder Joseph.
Her husband, the step father who to Joseph, on Tuesday told the police that he poisoned Joseph before handing over his body to buyers who wanted his body parts.
The other arrested include Joseph’s aunts and uncles.
On Tuesday, the president of Association of People with Albinism (Apam) Overtone Kondowe expressed concern over the continued attacks of people with albinism by close relations.
“The rate at which people with albinism are attacked shows that there are lapses in the security systems of the people, this shows that the security systems of people with albinism are not working,” he said.
He said it was sad that the police were yet to recover the body.
