Police officer nabbed for sexual assualt on teen girl

Police in Nsanje have arrested one of their own officier , Sergeant Petro Mkulalero, 32, on allegations of raping a 17 year old girl who sought refuge at Chilomo Police after running away from sex abuse at her parents’ home.

The girl was running away from her parents after exchanging bitter words with them because she refused to drop out of school and get married to a businessman in the area whom they identified for her.

Her parents had been forcing her to quit school and marry the businessman but she stood her ground because she wanted to be educated,.

The businessman was visiting the girl to be having intercourse with her after palm oiling the parents but she refused to bow down to her parents’ demands, a thing that forced her to seek shelter under what she thought are protectors of citizens, only to meet worse abuse by the law enforcers.

The police officer, Mkulalero, raped her last month but cops were unwilling to arrest their colleague till Sunday when they succumbed to pressure from the general public forcing the police to do justice by arresting Mkulalerowho was a suspect.

The source said Mkulalero threatened the girl with a gun after rape saying he would not hesitate to use it if she ever revealed the ordeal.

An officer who was on duty on that night said he thought the noise was the normal one only to learn later that the girl had been raped right there at the station though the suspect denied raping the girl alleging she was raped on her way to the police station, an allegation the girl refuted.

Nsanje Public Relations Officer, John Tembenu who seemed very unwilling to comment on the matter, confirmed the arrest of their fellow officer saying:

“It is true we have arrested our fellow officer for those allegations (rape) and will appear in court soon,” but failed to divulge more information despite several questions.

This story comes after Nyasa Times reported last week that Mbalachanda Police Unit officer-in-charge Paul Kuchawo is accused of rape and defilement charges following revelations that he made a 15-year-old girl pregnant.

Kuchawo is alleged to have threatened that he would “shoot-to-kill” her if she revealed about the affair and the girl complied even during her pregnancy but she revealed after the intervention of gender advocates who cater for her education.

The matter is in court.

In the bible it is said that in that last days nations shall rise against nations, all sorts of evil shall be of daily occurrences etc. But these evils perpetrated by the custodians of our safety and security is unforgivable.   16. Yes indeed I believe that Kaliati will go there to push so that the girl should get justice. Being a police officer is not a warrant to be harassing people. People put their trust in the so called the enforcers & if they behave like wild animals they must face the full mighty of the law. Shame on that guy.
