Pressure mounts for FA Malawi president Nyamilandu to go
Some soccer pundits in the country have urged Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu to honorably step down from his position to avoid further embarrassment.
Nyamilandu had a difficulty afternoon on Tuesday where supporters booed him while watching the under 23 match between Malawi and Botswana which ended in 1-all draw and cemented the junior flames into the next level where they will meet Zambia
The angry supporters boo and cheered FAM President due to the dismal run and the dwindling standards of football in the country following a 2-1 defeat away to Comoros in the 2019 AFCON Qualifier
Flames coach Ronny Van Geneudgen and his assistant Peter Mponda were not spared either as fans wanted them off the bench to let Meke Mwase and his coaching stuff to finish the job which they started last week in Gaberon
Commenting on the matter former Nyasa Big Bullets General Secretary who is now a pundit, Higger Mkandawire believe Saturday’s scene were a vote of no confidence for the FAM President from the fans and that it’s the time he should park all his belongings and concentrate on his new role as the FIFA council member
“What happened on Tuesday just really shows that people have lost confidence in Mponda and RVG. Walter Nyamilandu has been there for a long time and Malawi as a nation is not getting results so as a leader he should blame himself because he doesn’t have succession plan
“Our football is not improving and we are not developing, people have lost confidence in Walter, The problem with FAM officials in general is that all affiliates fear him. These affiliates are not that courageous to tell their master to pave way for new blood
“My suggestion is that, he should come out clearly and say he is done so that affiliates should be free to choose the right candidate. Walter has done a lot so for him to be respected he should step down, “said Mkandawire
However veteran pundit and former minister of sports, Moses Dossi insists that Nyamilandu remains the right person looking at what he has done in his tenure
“The problem is that Malawians expects results and you can’t get results when you are playing friendlies with teams like Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers
“Those baying for Nyamilandu’s resignation shouldn’t forget what this young man has achieved. We should commend him because of the positives that we are seen with our naked eyes, “explains Dossi.

To be fair FAM President position should have a maximum term of 2 terms so that others can also bring in their skills. HOW LONG HAS nyamilandi held this position? Needs new people new faces new ideas.

Am disturbed with the comments coming from the former chance Minister of Sports. What an insult to Malawians. I don’t blame you. You are probably looking for something on the table and you are so desperate.
If the we go by the rumors from the International Community as regards the comments that he made about Comoros , he is supposed to resign from the position at FIFA as his silly comments were Racist in nature and its a serious crime in the game of football.
The problem is that we have more bootlickers in our Society and we cant rise and force this idiot to pack his bales of Sugar and go. His boys are looting at the Mpira house and are massing so much worth on the expense of Malawians.
Lastly, the so much planned stakeholder meeting with the Players and Technical is bullshit. Nothing will come out there. The players will not say anything.
If Grace wants should ask for the Players to submit their views in writing without mentioning there names. Its only when you will find the truth.

Nyamilandu MUST be fired with immediate effect. He has contributed to the deteriorating standards of of our national team. One thing we can all strongly agree on, is the fact that during Nyamilandu’s time in the office, the national team has produced worse results. The national team has epically capitulated under Nyamilandu’s watch. All because he was sooo obsessed with holding on to power and maintaining his position. Self serving focus.
Do you know that the era of Nyamilandu has been of the worst results than any other past FAM executive team? Nyamilandu has had the longest yet the most pathetic era of them all. Their focus has been consolidating their staying power in positions. Their focus hasn’t been on what to do in order to improve football standards in Malawi, no! Their focus has always been what to do in order to still be in post. They have demonstrated zero strategy on how to progress the game, they have shown absolutely nothing substantive to indicate their willingness to make the flames a better team but I dare you to check how they have filled their own personal pockets with funds meant for the development of the game, check how many people they have bribed along the way to ensure they remain in the office. This administration has long past its ‘expirery date’, it’s ‘sell by date’ has long come and past. It’s high time we drain this FAM swamp. The sooner this administration vacates the office, the more chances our national team stands to move forward and demonstrate real progress.
In my opinion, here is what has to happen:
1. Nyamilandu and his crunnes MUST pack their bags and vacate FAM offices and (we write their administration off our football records)
2. Develop a structure that supports grassroot standard development.
3. Bring back the mayor’s trophy in its shining armour
4. Set a minimum qualifications and experience standard for super league coaches
5. Instill a sense of discipline in our players that will make them feel very proud to wear the flames’ jeasy.
6. Invest in a team in a way that encourages longer cohesion amongst the players
7. Introduce at least 6 friendly games in a calendar year
Come to think of it, really we shouldn’t be crying foul due to resources and lack of sufficient funds, I mean look at the Queens, so very under funded, yet so very effective. They pinch above their weight. They have heart for what they do. They feel the responsibility of playing for the nation, they are so proud to be representing the national team. I kid you not, I have on several occasions watch the Queens play and man I tell you, just watching their commitment, watching their drive, watching their full out passion for the country at display, its very emotional and can bring about tears. BTW- we must make sure that Queens are well funded, they deserve it.
Our national football team is a disgrace. Flames? What flames? They should be called “ice”. They have no spark whatsoever. Hmm!i
