Rain comes to Malawi after Muslim prayers

Malawians Muslims are attributing the coming of the rains to the prayers they have been holding for the past three days asking God to open the downpour to this southern African country which relies on rain-fed agriculture.

Until Tuesday night Malawi especially in the southern region has been experiencing dry spell although weather history show that the region always becomes the first in the country to register rainfall.

This forced Islamic Theologians Majilis Ulama on Sunday to ask Muslims to hold three-day special prayers for the rains.

An official of Majilis Ulama Sheikh Dinala Chabulika told a malawimuslims.com website that Prophet Muhammad  (May peace be upon him) asked Muslims to observe a certain prayer when they  see there is no any sign of rain.

“So, we asked everyone to do that after each obligatory prayer before we have a main function on Thursday. However, fortunately, Allah has answered our prayers even before the main prayer event,” said Chabulika.

Malawi President Peter Mutharika also asked various denominations to hold national players for the rains from this Friday.

  1. I am Muslim, but I do not subscribe to this kind of solicitation for cheap publicity my Learned brother in the faith Chabulika is doing. I am sure that his seeking public attention through this issue is not sanctioned by the teaching of the faith at all. There are so many problems the country is facing, which are still with us to day.

    Does he want to tell people that Muslims have not been praying for their removal only that God has not been answering their prayers? Or they have not been praying over them at all?

    I am sure that learned as he is, the Sheikh is very much aware that Islam strongly condemns the tendency of showing-off. What does he want to achieve by telling people that the rains have come following our prayers? Congratulations from the president who sanctioned the prayers? If God has answered the prayers, are the rains not enough testimony?

    For sure , as a matter of fact, we did not even need the president’s instructions for us to start start praying for the rains? I do no think that the president declared a competition among the clergy to see whose prayers God will answer first. After all very many people have been praying and hence can claim to have been behind the rains that have been received in some areas.           Okay now regarding the almighty and merciful God we say Allah which in Arabic means God the creator of the universe . I was going thru the comments and I have noted that apart from all other possible factors that can bring long term chaos in the country is ”faith,” It seems we don’t love each other when issues relating to faith comes to light. Luckily enough we do not have laws that allows individuals to buys weapons like in other countries, otherwise it would have been a different case as you read now. Such faith-related chaos are hard to bring down because nobody wants to lose. We just have to refrain from talking too much.     1. I absolutely agree with and the press needs to be responsible when reporting. In Malawi notably on issues of faith and tribalism . It’s seems petty now but these things can flare up and lead to loss of lives and journalists can be prosecuted too as was the case with Sang in Kenya.
