Rehabilitation of pot-holed and damaged Liwonde-Matawale road project to commerce soon

National Roads Authority, (RA) says the rehabilitation of Liwonde-Matawale road will commerce November this year.

Portia Kajanga RA spokesperson disclosed this on Thursday in Zomba as she says right now they are working with the consultant to prepare bids for contractors to bid, after approval from financers, the project will commerce.

She disclosed this to journalists who are on a media tour appreciating the projects under Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project (SATCP) a World Bank funded project which tends to improve infrastructure development within the Nacala-Beira corridors.

“This project is key because it comes all the from Lilongwe through Dedza, Ntcheu, Balaka up to here Zomba, we have already done the section between Blantyre and Zomba, so we believe that with this project as well as another project which we are going to do between Liwonde and Nsipe, we will connect this road and farmers and fishermen will be able to carry their goods from all sides and feed the nation,” she said.

She also said the road will have unique features like climbing lanes which will be used by tracks to reduce traffic and the road will also be widening to allow the bridges within the section to be widen.

She also mention of other rehabilitation project yet to be consulted in August which will see the road from Nsipe to Liwonde taking new shape.

This is a 47 kilometer project which will take two years to be completed.
