Robbers hit Kamuzu Institute: Steal sports items, church money
A group of panga and machete wielding thugs broke into Kamuzu Institute of Sports (KIS) on the dawn of Monday, October 7, 2013 going away with various sports items and cash belonging to members of the Living Waters Church, who conduct prayers at the institute every week.
According to sources at the institute, a group of about 25 thugs armed with dangerous weapons stormed the premises at around 2am and made away with an undisclosed sum of cash for the church and equipment
belonging to Wushu, Judo and Table Tennis associations.
The thugs also stole an electric sewing machine, a computers, clothes, speakers and kitchen items, amongst other things.
Authorities at the institute were not readily available for comment buy general secretary for Judo Association of Malawi Osborne Banda confirmed the loss of equipment belonging to his body.
“Our items are amongst the stolen equipment but we are yet to make a full assessment of the stolen items,” said Banda.
The sources told Nyasa Times that watchmen at the institute run for their dear life when the thugs stormed the place.
The watchmen reportedly tried to call the police from their hiding place but the phones went unanswered.
Police arrived at the scene at the thugs had already gone with the stolen items.
