Shopping ‘Yabooka’ with Airtel SMS promotion

With a month to go before Malawi’s leading mobile telecommunication company Airtel winds up its Yabooka SMS promotion, the network’s subscribers stand a chance to win lots of surprise prizes.

The prizes range from shopping vouchers to electronic devices like television sets, laptops and brand new expensive phones, the company disclosed this Tuesday during the eighth draw of the SMS promotion in Lilongwe.

Initially the company has been giving out K1.1 million to eleven lucky winners every week.

But during the eighth draw of the promotion, which winds up on October 14, Airtel said the company wants to reciprocate the overwhelming response it is getting from subscribers every week by introducing more prizes that will bring a change to their lives.

“We want to give our subscribers a shopping experience in these hard economic times. We will also be giving out television sets, expensive phones as well as laptops,” said Michael Khomani, Airtel’s Regional Corporate Sales Manager for the Centre.

He added: “This we are doing to acknowledge the support that subscribers continue to give this network. We are Malawi’s preferred network because of that support.”

To enter the promotion, Airtel subscribers send an SMS written PATA to 50009. After registering, customers answer simple questions which enhance their chances of claiming the prize money.

The Yabooka SMS promotion is running concurrently with Surf Your Way Promotion in which users of Airtel internet are winning state-of-the-art smart phones and data bundles.

“Since we introduced this promotion, we have registered an increase in numbers of people using our internet and with the introduction of the 3.75G internet, subscribers are enjoying very fast internet service,” said Khomani.

More five top-notch smart phones have already been won since the Surf Your Way promotion started over a month ago, following another Airtel Yabooka Promotion that came to an end in August, with the winner, Lemison Chipango, going home with a K32 million Toyota Prado.
