Malawian man who attempted to sell brother is jailed 3 years

A 29 year-old man in Dedza district is to languish for three years in jail after Mtakataka first grade magistrate’s court found him guilty for attempting to sell his younger brother to a businessman.

According to a story monitored on Radio Islam’s evening news bulletin on Wednesday, the court held that on 12 August,  Michael Mide went to the house of Musa Mbwana a business man at Bwanje Irrigation Scheme to offer his 24 year old brother Jailosi Mide for sale at K150,000.

But Mbwana reported the issue to Mtakataka police post where they arrested Mide but he denied the charge in court.

He was however found guilty after prosecution team paraded four witnesses who testified against him.

In mitigation,  Mide pleaded for leniency saying that he looks after his family.

But first grade magistrate Symon Mwambo said Mide deserved to serve a longer jail term because he is a threat to the life of his brother.

Michael Mide hails from Fole village, while Mbwana hails from Mbwana village both in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto.
