Skyband holds Africa Day celebrations

Malawi’s leading Internet Service Provider, Skyband on Friday held Africa Day celebration’s at their Delamere house offices in Blantyre.

Brand Marketing Officer for Skyband Chawanangwa Mphande speaking to our reporter said “As an office we saw it fit to celebrate the Africa day, our pride in being African, part of the African unity.”

Mphande said “Skyband believes in unity so having events like this helps us bond in an informal setting, have a time for team building and just gathering and socializing together.”

Some of the activities were people dressing in traditional attire.

Skyband also organised a lunch on of traditional african food for their staff members.

Malawi does not prioritize the celebrations as compared to other African countries but for Skyband this is the second year running.

Mphande said “It would be nice for Malawi to also celebrate. Its a day we celebrate independence of Africa country’s and our heritage.”

“Africa is a blessed continent so it is always good to show us in a positive light.”

Mphande said with management approval they will continue to celebrate Africa day as it has been a success.

One of the staff members who was in attendance said the celebrations have brought a feeling of pride as an African aswell as interacting with top bosses in a different setting.

He said “We don’t normally rub shoulders with top management like we did. This is important and we have learnt things today we wouldn’t have known. So it has been a great celebration.”

The commemorations were attended by all staff members.
