Teacher arrested for sexual assault on pupil, aiding abortion
Police in Phalombe on Friday arrested a 40 year-old primary school teacher for allegedly defiling a standard seven pupil.
The teacher, Frank Chitseko is also accused of aiding the 13 year-old (name withheld) to abort a pregnancy.
Chitseko of T/A Kaduya in Phalombe and a teacher at Phaloni primary school, is alleged to have been in a secret love affair with the
victim since 2013 when she was in standard six.
“The girl had been hiding this from her parents until on October 18th this year when the news came to light. On this day the girl left home
and told her parents she was going for classes. The parents were surprised as it was Saturday,” explained Phalombe Police Publicist,
Surgeant Augustus Nkhwazi.
Nkhwazi told Nyasa Times that the parents were later told that the girl was seen being carried on a bicycle by the suspect to Chiringa
trading centre.
“Later in the day when she came back, she was quizzed by her parents and she confessed to have been to Chiringa with
the said teacher but said nothing on the purpose of the trip,” Nkhwazi said.
It was on Wednesday 22nd October, when the girl started complaining of abdominal pains and was discovered by her mother that she had vaginal bleeding.
When the parents quizzed her, the girl confessed to have had an abortion with the aid of the teacher.
“She revealed to her parents had been dating Chitseko and that he was the one responsible for the pregnancy.”
The victim was taken to Migowi Health Centre where she was referred to Holly Family Mission Hospital where she is currently admitted.
Nkhwazi said Chitseko is in custody waiting to appear before court to answer charges of Defilement and
Aiding Abortion contrary to Sections 138 and 149 of the Penal Code respectively.
