“The Be Forward Wanderers family clinched the title after putting in extraordinary effort. The team displayed hard work, good organisation and consistency. They remained resilient to pressure on and off the pitch. We at TNM believe that discipline was key to the team’s success, and we would like to hail the spirit,” said Chief Officer- Consumer Services Daniel Makata.

Makata revealed that TNM is thrilled with the high level of professionalism and commitment demonstrated by the team players, fans and administrators as they worked their way towards the lucrative title.

“Wanderers has been fighting for the championship since TNM took up Super League sponsorship and despite the fact that they did not claim it, supporters rallied solidly behind their club. This auger’s well with the team’s reputation in Malawi’s football,” Makata said.

He encouraged other teams to emulate Be Forward Wanderer’s example of defying the odds to clinch the League after an eleven-year drought.

Overall, Makata commended the high level of competition displayed by all the 16 Super League teams during the 2017 season.

“In all, it’s clear that the Super League is achieving its goal of developing football standards in Malawi and this has recently been reflected in the continued improvement of individual player performance within the sport,” he articulated.

On Be Forward Wanderer’s ambitions to compete for the continental honours under Confederation of African Football (CAF) Club Champions League, Makata said TNM keenly awaits the team’s participation and expressed hope that it would excel given its current form.

“We wish them well as they take part in the continental league. As a brand, we are humbled that TNM sponsorship of the league is now producing international standard teams. We would also like to congratulate Masters Security as they too prepare to compete in CAF Cup Winners Cup and further wish well all subsequent teams that will join the league within the coming year,” he said.

There are 16 teams who compete for the lucrative title of TNM Super League Champion every year. The current sponsorship is valued at K90 million per annum and will run until the 2020 season.
