Two arrested on failed K20m albino son sell
A 37 year old step father and 31 year old accomplice have been arrested in Mzimba for conspiring to sell a four-year-old albino boy at a price tag of K20 million, police have confirmed.
National police spokesperson Rhoda Manjolo has disclosed that Christopher Kumwenda,37 and Lusungu Sere,25 tried to convince 25-yearold Maria Mtengo who is the biological mother of the albino child and husband to Kumwenda to sell the boy to Sere but it did not work out.
Maria gave birth to the albino child from her first marriage.
“Whilst in the second marriage, the suspect has been forcing the wife to sell the step son to Sere at a price of K20 million but the woman was reluctant so she reported the matter to police hence the arrest,” said the police spokesperson.
The two have been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony which is contrary to section 404 of the Penal Code. Sere is first accused while Kumwenda is second accused in the matter.
Both suspects are from Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba but Sere comes from Mkoko Village Kumwenda is from Jamu village.
The case comes at a time many Malawians thought enough messages have been aired on the evils of selling fellow human beings and dehumanizing people with albinism.
