Two killed in Zomba minibus accident: 8 battling for life in hospital
A mini bus driver, Clement Mkungazula and a three year old child are reported to have died after a minibus they were travelling in overturned in Zomba on Wednesday morning.
Eastern Region Police Spokesperson Thomeck Nyaude has confirmed of the development saying eight others have been admitted of various degrees of injuries at the Zomba Central Hospital.
The minibus, NU 3353, belongs to Kilimanjaro Tours and was on its way from Mangochi to Limbe.
It is said that the accident happened as the driver was trying to overtake another minibus and it overturned.
“There is a sharp corner at the place and the driver was over-speeding and trying to overtake other vehicles.
“He lost control and the minibus overturned, leaving the boy dead while him [driver] sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Zomba Central Hospital,” said Nyaude.
The driver-from traditional authority Mponda in Mangochi-was pronounced dead upon arrival at Zomba Central Hospital while child is reported to have died on the spot.

It did not overturn. The minibus driver was trying to avoid cyclist and in the process hit lorry ya mchenga that what happened. Too bad ofcourse.

Cant the Road Traffic Directorate find a way to set automatic speed limits for all min buses at the time of registering the vehicles and the cost should be borne by the minibus owner(s). how long shall we watch people dying unnecessarily due to recklessness of these mad minibus drivers!

I blame corruption over some of these accidents. Most minibuses are not road worthy and their drivers do not have time to learn defensive driving skills let alone passenger service driving yet the authorities are there. Zikumatiwawatu!!
Most minibus drivers are too excited to be behind the wheel probably it’s something they never dreamed they would achieve in their lifetime. They always want to overtake any vehicle in front of them as if being behind another vehicle is a traffic offence! Most of them also lack experience to handle a vehicle in an emergency due to their low IQ.
The policemen/women are to blame, they are so corrupt.

I do not know why we have these useless so called police men manning roadblocks. They are there to collect money from minibus drivers. Authorities pretend not to know all this nosense. Why can’t you bring sense to these officers or just remove the roadblocks because they serve no purpose
Traffic police let these minibuses pass through even if they have 5 extra passengers standing apart from the 21 seated ones, as long as they make a plan they pass all the way to Limbe from Mangochi and otherway round

I always argue with mini bus drivers when they are over speeding…these mini buses are death traps and a big shame to the so called traffic police they collect K200 to let these drivers go without anything.
I have been in Malawi recently and I was appaled by the way these minibus drivers behave on the roads of Malawi, Its all about overtaking and speed,People will continue to die and unfortunately there is no altenative to these death traps|Dont expect The so called leaders to do anything about it, They are busy getting rich|
