Two nabbed for stealing electronics worth K3m from a shop
Police at Balaka are keeping in custody two people for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing goods worth over K3million.
According to Balaka Police spokesperson sub inspector Joseph Sauka, the suspects Gift Paul (22) and Robert Wayindani Mlamba (36) together with their friends who are at large, on the night of 6th July, 2013 broke into Nyanja Ipindula Shop owned by Frackson Chilala 42 through the roof by cutting the iron sheets and went away with 180 brand new cell phones but without batteries, 130 2GB memory cards, Cameras and DVD players will a total value of K3, 188,000.00
“The suspects sold some of the phones at Kasinje Trading Centre and since the phones had no batteries one of the customers Gibson Chikhasu took the phone to Nyanja Ipindula Shop in search for a battery and the owner recognised the phone as one of the phones which were stolen from his shop and took the suspect to Police,” says Sauka.
Upon interview Sauka says, Chikhasu revealed to have bought the phone from one of the suspects Gift Paul who was later arrested.
“We have also arrested Robert Wayindani Mlamba after being mentioned that he was one of the gang,”he said.
Sauka says the police have since recovered 76 cell phones and some memory cards and the suspects will appear before court soon to answer charges of breaking into a building and committing a felony therein which is contrary to section 311 of the Penal code.
Both Gift Paul and Robert Wayindani Mlamba come from Mpango village, Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza district.
