UDF appoints Judith Ngwira as deputy spokesperson

Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) has appointed Judith Ngwira as the party Deputy Publicity Secretary.

Party spokesperson Ken Ndanga confirmed the new development in an interview with Nyasa Times, saying Ngwira’s appointment was effective Thursday, November, 28.

She replaces Peter Chimangeni who defected to ruling People’s Party.

Ndanga said Ngwira is one of the youthful women in the country who have been instrumental in championing the agenda for change and hence suitable for the job.

Ngwira is also national secretary for a newly formed UDF youth grouping called Jubilee 50 Movement.

“She is hard working, dedicated youthful politician and suitable for the job” said Ndanga.

The UDF publicist said that the appointment comes at a time when women and the youth are craving for political space as such it is a timely response from the party to show it’s commitment to putting women and the youth in positions of influence.

In an 80 member National Executive Committee 35 are women which is an improvement from the past where less than 20 women were members of the NEC.

According to Ndanga the UDF agreed that should any need arises to appoint some members into the NEC women and the youth should be given a chance.
