Wakuda censured over remarks on hunger related deaths

United Independence Party (UIP) president Hellen Sighn has registered her concerns over remarks made by President Joyce Banda’s spin doctor Wakuda Kamanga on reports that people are not dying of hunger.

Kamanga was reported on Galaxy FM that people should not be amused with the deaths report as it was reported in the Bible that every human being will have to die sometime.

Kufa kwa anthu sinkhani yachilendo, anthu amafa ngakhale m’baibulo analemba kuti anthu adzafa (reports that people are dying are not new, even in the Bible it was written that everyone will die),” Kamanga said.

Kamanga said the remarks when Galaxy radio’s reporter Sylvester Namiwa wanted to know what the leadership is doing on the hunger that has his some parts of the  country.

In Dedza, it is reported that so far over 9 people had died because of hunger.

Re-acting to the statement, Sighn said it is very unfortunate for Kamanga to downplay the deaths of innocent people because of hunger.

“This totally shows how the leadership lacks the welfare of people at heart.

“It is not on for the whole leader to be telling the people that the hunger related deaths are timely when actually we were told that the proceeds of the jet sell will be used to purchase maize,” she said.

According to Sighn, the money realised from the jet sells could have been used to buy 1600 trucks of 30 tonnes each.
