Wife to Malawi Police chief captured in MCP regalia
Wife of Malawi Police chief Lexten Kachama has been captured with opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) members in party regalia suggesting she is partisan and behind the MCP.
Police officers are supposed to be apolitical and largely that translates to their spouses.
However, there is no law stopping spouses of law enforcing officers to belong to parties.
MCP officials say they see nothing wrong with Mrs Kachama wearing their party regalia let alone participate in their political activities.
But observers say this will raise “eyebrows.”
They argue that her political stance can compromise the neutrality of the police chief.

She is a wife and not politician. The problem of Afruca/Malawi is a wife should be in husbonde workshop. In som countrues where democracy has been a culture for many years a wife and a husband has right to belong to the party of choice If they agree and fight. The Police chief is not peoples choice. Its the president who has pocked him. The wife is the husbands choice. The law should change to make it easy for people working in high position freely. But here there is a big problem cos the Inspector Generals of police, Army Cummersdale all serve for the government of the day & those are strategic positions where the president put his people now as it stands I see a problem.

I was trying to check latest online news at Malawi Voice but there is nothing, even on MBC. I think its because its about cashgate at Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Nsanje, Agriculture, plus Mrs. Kachama in MCP ligalia….. sheeeee…. ma cadette apa MBC and Malawi Voice mitu yapanga boil. Coz all these cashgates are happening now, and not during PP.

This looks like a photoshoped image to me. The resolutions of the lady in question don’t tally with the rest of the image. Would she be so dumb to appear at MCP rally when her husband is IG?
I have spotted the difference …pure Photoshop but poorly done though
1. She is facing wrong side when everybody is looking the other direction
2. The edges of her arms were not well cut and blended. Zoom In u will see the hand looks crippled some places are thinner
3.right hand arm looks disabled check where the elbow is and look closely at the her hand it’s placed not on the original chair she sat
4. Resting arm on the left hand side is missing in the quest to blend the image the photo editor erased it completely
5. The person sitting down near the madam ..if true that’s too close….the sitting arrangement proves kuti Pali bodza apa

Not surprising! Kachama comes from Lilongwe; a stronghold for Malawi Congress Party.If Kachama retired today and joins active politics, he would most probably join Malawi Congress Party. His spirit would most probably be associated with MCP hence his wife getting involved as it would be most unlikely to see his wife associated with MCP if his soul was not party to this. There is nothing wrong that I see in this but he should play his cards to his chest or else he wont last.
She is also a Malawian and has the right to belong to any party. She has the right of association just like anyone. Is it wrong because she is MCP? She knows the right political party. In fact people are no longer willing to hide because things are going sour every day.
My father was third in command in the hierarchy of the Marine service when Malawians were fighting white rule for independence.. He was the only black guy in the top commanding cadre of this section. Yet my mum used to be among women demonstrating in the streets of Blantyre. But my dad was never reprimanded for this by the colonial masters. When we got independence he was promoted to the rank of senior sergeant. Kaya poti zamasiku ano ndizoyendana mmapazi. What if Mrs Kachama wants to stand as an Mphepo for her constituency, how will she do it without associating with the members of her party of choice?
Stupid writer. This is ok with me. My wife is not me, is not my appendix is free to make her own decisions. Why should she not associate with a party of her own

I don’t see any problem with IG’s wife donning the MCP regalia. She has the freedom to associate and choose whatever party she sees as the right party. It is her husband who is serving in the police not her.

There is nothing wrong for Mrs Kachama to wear MCP regalia or party cloth. It is even better that she declares her allegiance to MCP than pretending. What if she was warring DPP cloth, could this have raised eye blues? Both MDF and Police officers are allowed to vote, do they vote for a single party? Let’s practice civilized politics. What is wrong with a police chief’s wife declaring her allegiance to MCP? It only shows that she is principled and want to exercise her rights. Every Malawian citizen has the right to belong to any political party or even not belong to any party let alone vote during elections.
By virtue of the Republican Constitution, Mrs. Kachama is exercising her freedom of association. It is provided for in it, and it is not a crime. Neither will her association compromise her husband’s neutrality. Unless that the the supreme laws were amended to prevent such association, then, it is a crime.
