Zimbabwe Govt donates final consignment towards National Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Plan
Zimbabwe Government on Thursday handedover food and non food relief items towards National Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Plan at a colourful function which took place at the magnificent Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the Capital city Lilongwe.

Handingover the donation Zimbabwe Ambassador to Malawi Her Excellency Nancy Saungweme emphasized on the shared responsibility to support the vulnerable communities beyond boarders as President Emmerson Mnangangwa continues to stand in solidarity with his counterpart Peter Mutharika.
“As you may be aware, Zimbabwe is also facing heavy rains which resulted in deaths and left many distressed. The government, through our Department of Civil Protection is pulling resources to assist the affected families. However, this does not stop us from extending a hand to our brothers and sisters here, just as Malawi stood by Zimbabwe during our dark moments when the country was reeling under illegal sanctions,”she said.
Receiving the donation Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda said the current administration is working tirelessly to ensure no life is lost due to the country’s food deficit and he commended the timely gesture from Zimbabwean Government.
“On behalf of His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, the Government, and the people of Malawi, I would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe. Your steadfast support throughout this emergency has been a true reflection of the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between our sister Republics,” he said.
Zimbabwe undertook to provide to Malawi, 1000 metric tonnes of grain. First consignment of the Relief Aid comprised of 300 tons of red Sorghum, then 370 tons of Maize on the second consignment, and today they handed over the third and final consignment of the humanitarian relief aid of 330 metric tonnes of maize.
