2-year-old baby defiled in Lilongwe: Malawi Police launches hunt for sex offender

Malawi Police in Lilongwe have launched a man-hunt for a suspect believed to have defiled a two year old girl in Area 25 Sector 5.

Many children are defiled by people who are close to them, sometimes by family members

According to Kanengo Police Deputy Spokesperson Constable Salome Zgambo Chibwana, the incident happened on 6th October 2017 when the mother of the child went to cheer up a sick friend who was admitted at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) leaving the baby behind with her  nephew.

Upon return, the mother was tipped by her tenant that she saw the child coming out of the house of the suspect with blood oozing from her private parts.

The mother did not hesitate but to report the matter at Kanengo Police Station where a medical report was issued.

Medical examinations confirmed that the child was indeed defiled.

Police are currently hunting for the suspected criminal who is still at large.

In a related development, a 38 year old man identified as Ephraim Matapila is in Police custody at Kanengo police for indecently assaulting a physically and mentality disabled girl.

The incident happened on 10th October 2017 when the mother of the girl went to fetch water at a nearby place.

The mother Alice Mphamba caught Matapila red handed molesting the girl.

He hails from Kandikole Village in the Area of Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe and he is expected to appear before court soon.
