Two dead, 8 in hospital after Malasha Bus crash

Two people have been confirmed dead while eight others are admitted to Dedza District Hospital after a Malasha bus overturned in Dedza district in the early hours of Wednesday.

The night bus, belonging to Blantyre based Malasha Bus Company, was traveling from Mzuzu to Blantyre when it overturned just after crossing Dedza Police Road Block, according to police.

Dedza Police spokesperson Edward Kabango said the accident occurred because the bus driver, Maxwell Magombo, was over speeding.

In another development, a 30-year-old man has died in Balaka district after a herd of marauding elephants from Liwonde National Park trampled on him while taking a bath in Shire River.

Balaka Police said the man, identified as Kesten Nasila from William Village, TA Kalembo in the district, was killed on Tuesday morning.

His body was found by some men who later reported to police and a postmortem at Kalembo Health Center indicated that the man died due to severe loss of blood.
