Officer bolts away with AIDS money
A Finance and Administration Officer who worked for the National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi (NAPHAM) in Rumphi is at large after he failed to reconcile over K300, 000, Police have confirmed.
The money was meant for the purchase of goats for distribution to Support Groups. Support Groups compose of people living with HIV.
Rumphi Police Spokesperson Victor Khamisi confirmed the development but refused to give more information saying investigations were still in progress.
The officer, Evance Willo 27, who hails from Zomba, also forged a bank cheque worth K75, 000 which he wanted to cash with NBS, Rumphi Branch, but was foiled.
Sources told Nyasa Times that Willo started absconding from work without giving valid reasons.
“This prompted management to call for Auditor and it was discovered that over K300, 000 could not be accounted for.
