DPP to send high-powered delegation to PAC’s ‘future of Malawi’ conference

A high-powered delagtion of the government Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Executive will be send to attend the  Public Affairs Committee (PAC) conference, government spokesman Nicholous Dausi has indicated.

Dausi: Malawi government will send a delegation to PAC conference

Dausi, who is also Minister of Information, Communication Technology, said government is ready to attend the  conference scheduled for Blantyre this week.

“Government will attend the conference and hope it is for the good of the people,” Dausi said.

PAC spokesman Fr Peter Mulomole confirmed invitation has been extended to government officials for what the quasi-religious body calls a 5+1 All-Inclusive Stakeholders’ Conference which is being funded by Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA).

However, observers say  that expectations from  the  previous PAC conference were not met as per resolutions made and some question its relevance.

Mabvuto Bamusi, a presidential aide on civil society, a Government Technical Team (GTT) spokesperson appointed by President Peter Mutharika to engage PAC on resolutions from the previous conference, said government delegation will use its presence to turn the governance watchdog  “to its right path.”

Bamusi said President Mutharika is still open for dialogue with PAC.

But cautioned some political elements os “using PAC as a conduit for chunning unmerited anger and dislike for Mutharika.”

Moatize, What projects will DPP be inaugurating? Do these include:

1. Nsanje port? Ask the Mozambicans
2. Urban roads – All those substandard ones.
3. Mombera University – It will never take off.
4. Rural Polytechnics – You are failing to pay the teachers.
5. National ID – It was ATcheyas brainchild
6. Malata and cement subsidy – You cannot afford this as the Govt is broke.

I wonder why people think they can use PAC to fulfill their political goals. Is it not the same PAC which gave the late Bingu some ultimatums and said they were working on behalf of the people? Was it not the same people who brought the DPP back into power? PAC can bubble in any way they feel but it should not cheat us that it is working on behalf of Malawians. The executive has already shown its political affliation therefore the Committee should not expect backing from all the people. These days PAC is taken as another opposition party… Read more »

Can the DPP spokesperson kindly remind us what PAC’s Mandate is? You keep reminding us, like a gramophone with a damaged groove, that the institution has veered off track. What was the aim behind it’s creation if highlighting shortfalls and reminding government about these is not one of them?
