AFORD ropes in Karonga council chairperson from PP

Karonga District Council chairperson Ernest Mwalughali, who is also the councillor for Lupembe ward, on Sunday was welcomed to the revamped Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) who has withdrawn his membership from former ruling Peoples Party (PP).
Revamp Aford on course
Speaking during the political rally organized by Karonga central constituency legislature Frank Mwenifumbo, Mwalughali said AFORD is the party that represent the need of northerners as well as Malawi as whole hence his decision to join it.
According to him, elected leaders are mandated to do and respect the will of people who voted for them.
“Meanwhile, the political climate in our area is in favour of Aford ,” he said.
He said he cannot betray his people to join the ruling or any other party for his own benefit.
“I have not joined AFORD because of my own interest only but the community. In my area as well as Karonga as whole, AFORD has the support and as a politician I have to know where the wind is going,” he told Nyasa Times in an interview.
In his remarks, Mwenifumbo said he is happy with the way people in the north have welcomed the revamped Aford.
Several other people also announced joining Aford.
