Kamwendo leaves Pirates, hunts for new club

Malawian international midfielder Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo has quit South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Orlando Pirates by mutual consent and he is now hunting for a new club.
According to the South Africa’s newspaper Sowetan. Kamwendo asked Pirates to release him after being put on transfer early this month following his return from Vasco Da Gama, where he was on loan for the 2010/11 season.
“Obviously, I am sad that I am leaving Orlando Pirates, however, I am leaving in a good way after management have accepted my request to release me from my contract,” he told Pirates website.
“I would like to thank the chairman Dr Irvin Khoza and the management for the way they handled the whole matter and for all the team has done for me during my time at Pirates.”
The 24 year-old joined Bucs ahead of the 2007/08, but saw little action, hence he was loaned out to Vasco Da Gama at the beginning of the 2010/11 season, ironically, the same period Pirates claimed a treble (Absa Premiership, Nedbank Cup and MTN8).
“I enjoyed the experience of wearing the black and white colours of the Buccaneers and had a great time in the ship.
“I would like to specially thank The Ghost for their support at all times during my stay here. I am going to miss them very much,” he added.
“For now, I am going back to my country for national duty against Tunisia in the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and only after then will I consider my future.
“I would like to wish Orlando Pirates the best of luck for the new season. Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate, ” Kamwendo is quoted as saying.
