Mutharika vows never to allow MCP back in power: Malawi leader brands UTM ‘movement of insults’
President Peter Mutharika has vowed never to allow the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) back in government, describing the veteran opposition as a party of darkness and murderers.
In a Talk to the President program to be aired on Thursday on State-controlled MBC, Mutharika said as long as he is alive, the main opposition in parliament will never win an election.
“As long as Peter Mutharika is alive, I will never allow them to rule this country again. This is a party of darkness. This is a party of murderers. We will never allow them to rule the country again,” he said.
There was no immediate comment from the MCP.
MCP has of late been overshadowed by the new strongest political force of Vice-President Saulos Chilima and his United Transformation Movement (UTM).
UTM has taken the Malawi political landscape by storm, with the vice president’s clear agenda capitalising on the political weaknesses of the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) which include corruption, nepotism, and cronyism in government.
Chilima’s political motto is to ‘drain the swamp’ of all its vices.
Commenting on Chilima and the UTM, Mutharika accused them of running the campaign on the basis of insulting him and the DPP officials.
“Can you really run the whole presidential campaign on the basis of insulting others? This is ridiculous,” he said.
He also tore apart Chilima’s promise of creating one million jobs, saying this was impossible.
Mutharika has dodged the private media to articulate his agenda and instead prefers the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation.
This is a very serious issue not to be .taken lightly. Now I can believe those who are prophesise blood shed in 2019 to be right. This is very unfortunate statement from head of state.His statement has three serious implications:
1.He will use his powers to bulldose the results of elections if they seem to favou MCP
2. He will use MEC to rig the election against MCP
3. He will suspend or he will not except the results of election if MCP will be winning.
If one of these three implications occurs at expenses of preventing MCP,blood shed is likely to occur and those prophencising bloodshed in 2019 will be proved right.This the right to prevent such serious events to occur.Where are the civil societies to question suchstatement.?Don’t only focus on monitory issues but also look at controvential issues that bring blood shed and infringe human rights.
Just like the president we all are not listening attentively. Mutharika is stating clearly a fact…..in as long as he is alive he will not allow any party to rule Malawi or put it more clearly; he will not allow any party to “win” elections even of it means by crooked means. Remember that in elections, it is not the voting that matters but those who count the votes. MEC is under Mutharika wing and therefore his statement is scary if put in the right context. We must be very afraid….very afraid.
Just you wait. You will have a shock of your life when the MCP replaces you next year and fate will not be so kind as this will not happen over your dead body so that you can experience and appreciate good governance which has eluded us for the past four years. On a different note, I am disappointed that a whole president cannot differentiate between past and post referendum MCP. The party you term murderouss is now clean and rebranded unlike your DPP which has been famous for wrong things since it’s birth.
Before I forget, I am told investigators into the brutal murders of Chasowa and Njauju, among others, are looking for loyal citizens to assist them with enquiries. I believe some witnesses are high profile DPP members.
With the blood of innocent Malawians especially that of the hated Northerners,I strongly support Muthalika’s remarks on the MALAWI CONFUSIONIST PARTY(MCP) However,having said that,Iam not a dear friend of corrupt DPP.MCP has killed a good number of brilliant northerners VIZ: DUNDUZU K.CHISIZA,YATUTA K.CHISIZA,ORTON C.CHIRWA,KANYAMA CHIUME,MATUPI MKANDAWIRE,LUTENGANO MWAHIMBA and other brilliant Malawians VIZ: AUGUSTINE W.BWANAUSI,ATATI MPHAKATI,HARRY JONGA etc. The people of Malawi have suffered a lot under the MCP and we must not vote for this inhuman Party.Afterall,how would an African country to be ruled by an Arab terrorist,are you not ashamed? I thought MBC was the national independent broadcaster and not the property of the DPP government. Can other political parties also use it to campaign for election in 2019? Also does APM think that the MCP is the same party that ruled under Dr Banda without any change over the years since multiparty democracy came to Malawi? He knows it has changed and that it is a credible threat to the re-election of the DPP, otherwise why the scare tactics? If he wishes to defeat the MCP he needs to attack their policies and not hark back to what took place more than twenty years ago under Dr Banda. On the other hand, if he has nothing better to offer the electorate than what the MCP have, then he should be ready to accept defeat.
