Lands ministry warns against sale of newly allocated plots
Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has warned estates agents and individuals against advertising, selling or touting newly allocated plots in areas designated by the ministry.
In a statement, Principal Secretary for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Janet Banda, said the conduct is against the laws of Malawi.
“Any plots acquired through this process shall not be processed in terms of title deed as the transaction does not comply with the law,” said Banda.
Banda further warned all unscrupulous estate agents and individuals that the ministry reserves the right to take legal action against them if they facilitate the illegal sales.
Meanwhile, the ministry has called upon the general public to join hands with them in fighting corruption by reporting any suspicious land transactions involving the ministry.
Plots are advertised every day in the papers and if the ministry was serious it can confiscate several plots and give it to people who want to develop not these vendors who conive with the very ministry staff.

Best start with fighting corruption on plot allocation which leads to allocation to vendors who later resale. Ndangopazamo ine…
Ministry of lands should stop administering land in the cities – you should leave the city councils to manage urban land. Ministry of lands is insensitive to scarcity of urban land, their focus is on few rich people. With high urbanisation rate, Ministry of lands still follow sprawl land development – where will the majority of town dwellers live? No wonder people are occupying the mountains and river banks putting their lives on danger when there is huge idle land in the cities of Malawi.
When is Jacaranda Farm vacating Dzalanyama Forest Reserve (Dedza side) which they encroached but processing of deeds facilitated by the Ministry of Lands (Regional Lands Office, Centre). Area in the reserved was surveyed by Department of Surveys staff, Lilongwe. The new Principal Secretary should expedite the removal of Jacaranda Farm from the protected area, otherwise, the situation does not reflect good image in the fight against forest resources degradation. There are so many issues with this ministry which require correction in the interest of Malawi nation.
