Malawi police surround Bendulo’s house, key witness in poll case

One of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera’s key  witness in the disputed presidential results of the May 21 polls, Anthony Bendulo, has started sailing into troubles from the state machineries following his testimony in the court recently that that rigging was orchestrated by Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) IT officers to favour first respondent President Peter Mutharika.

Bendulo: My house under siege
More than 20 heavily armed  Police officers had by early Thursday  morning surrounded Bendulo’s residence following where they failed to execute their unspecified actions.
Whilst Bendulo was at the court, he  received a call from someone at the house who notified him of the heavy armed police officers at his house who claimed to be sent by Lilongwe City Council to do an investigation on unpaid City rates.
MCP officials said they feared the State is now determined to silence Bendulo and others “through brutality”.
Bendulo said he was informed  that armed police were at his home.
“My home is under siege,” he said.
Bendulo said it was difficult to understand the police action.
Nyasa Times was not able to immediately reach the  police for comment.
Bendulo, who worked as an IT analyst for MCP during the May elections, has come on the limelight following his comprehensive exposé on the electoral body  mismanagement of data and the rigging and it has been established that now he is being hunted by the regimr thugs  for his court testimony.
Most social media platforms have been awashed with lots of criticism messages directed to the police for acting unprofessionally saying they are doing all these intimidations following orders from the ruling party officials.
Chakwera  alongside first petitioner Saulos Chilima of UTM Party are seeking nullification of the presidential election results over alleged irregularities in the results management system.

  1. If what EAGLE is saying is true then Chakwera ndi oipa. Anamanga nyumba ya zipinda 15 dubiously Kama osamupatsa malo Okhala Bendulo? Bendulo, kondomu ya a Chakwera, waona akuyuza.

  2. It’s good for you Eagle to clarify matters. You see, Malawians are on edge these days and you can’t blame people who have been subjected to very bad governance

    1. Subjected to bad governance is no excuse for bad behavior(it’s like justifying kuba because you are poor). Honestly aMalawi pena pake tikuonjedza nawo mabodzawa- we are becoming a shame as a country.

    2. Poor justification for very bad behavior. Tiyeni a Malawi tichepetse ongokhalira spreading lies- it’s unbiblical & undevelopmental.

  3. Bendulo does not have a house. He rents a house in fact a boys quarter. The Police were at his landlord’s house not Bendulo’s. They had issues with the landlord not him. Munakhala bwanji a Malawi kukonda kuyankhula bodza.

    1. Iwe Eagle bodza la mkunkhuniza (sic). Have a heavily armed police platoon ever visited a mere citizen to check an issue with him? Do you not feel ashamed when lying through your teeth like this?

    2. So is this how issues with landlords are sorted out, when did the City council start using such a force over unpaid dues. Umbulitu uwu

    3. basitu, ndi uDPP umenewo… konyoza anthu osaba, kupangila matama zithu zopezela mwakuba…. Ati, he doesnt have a house: yes he doesn’t because he is able to afford rent from money that he earns without stealing. You on the other hand live in a house built with stolen funds…. go pluck at your ball-hairs for a change and give us a break. Plenty of hair along that stealing ass to keep you busy for a lifetime. Asshole!

    4. Osanamizepo anthu apa iwe, when did the police started having issues with the landlord for Bendulo? What crime did the landlord committed that can make the whole area 30 coming to him or her? After this, what next to the landlord? Where is the issue of the landlord and the Government? You think we are so stupid that we can’t articulate issues behind any move you are doing? You are taking Malawians very weak thinking they are nothing right? Mukuuyatsa nakho moto uwu, ndithu mudzazimitsa nokhaso mark my words. Ndalankhula zimenezo on the public podium but it should be yours Mr Eagle.

  4. Having given logging in credentials to Suleman and MCP, My theory is that MEC doesn’t want its system to be manipulated remotely from gadgets in Bendulo’s home to create a situation that MCP won the elections.. So whilst system is online nobody will be allowed to enter Bendulo’s home.

    1. Ngat umamvera zulo Suleman ordered MEC ITs to unplug the network cable. He was avoiding what u are thinking. Comano codabwisa only to unplug the network cable it took MEC ITs time.

  5. These are not Police but DPP operatives trying to intimidate the Witnesses. The question to ask is: DPP and MEC has been saying they won fair and square . why are they trying to intimidate Bendulo ???

    MAWERE AWILIRANA APA

    MADZI ACHITA KATONDO

  6. Isn’t it obvious Dausi is behind this childish nonsense? And Mwapasa is waiting for confirmation with all the blunders he’s making? Mayaya, Msundwe, Mtambo etc etc. Let’s wait and see what our Lawmakers are going to decide.

  7. Mine is a simple question: Is the constitutional court sitting in Lilongwe part of this scheme to intimidate witnesses? If it is not then what is it doing to ensure that witnesses are not being intimidated?
What happened to Mr Diverson Makwete who lied to the court under oath? Has anything been done to him to ensure that the court order which was made over 90 days ago is being worked on? Is the court part of the scheme to ensure that this individual does not face justice? If it is not then what is it doing to ensure that the public has trust in the court? I was shocked to hear one of the judges recommending Mr Kaphale for what he termed was a candid apology which was never even an apology. Since then we have heard nothing regarding what is being done with the case of Mr Makwete.

  8. Kodi bwanji osamangopitiliza osavota????? ufiti wanji mulinawo anthu inu a DPP???? Onani lero ndikale lonse kunalibe izi zongophana kutentha manyumba ngakhale nthawi ya kamuzu, muluzi, bingu ndi mai banda. Why lero??? ziwanda…….anthu oipa ngati kumanda, koma likubwela basi tsiku lanu.

  9. The same bendulo who is watching Mr kazuwa installing files for daud sulemani to present, because he has no credentials to present himself? I suspect umboni wa sulemani was initially meant to be presented by bendulo but he has no certificates. Poor boy, now your city rates have become suddenly due and payable

    1. More than 20 heavily armed police officers claiming to be sent by City Council….are you kidding me? When did City Council start doing that? send heavily armed police with that number? Is Bendulo an armed crimnal?

My friend, Bendulo is more than what you think…..he more than your type.DPP will not kill him at all, you can not.

    2. I think your brain is not working properly.Go to Zomba Mental Hospital so that they can check your problem earlier.Does it take Malawi Police to check on someones bills for the City Council?Stop showing your stupidity here.

  10. Work of the 2 chief cadets Mwapasa and Kalekeni. They claim their hands are clean what is this now? Protection? for what? musiyeni mwana always after his blood. Koma kumpesa kuli ntchito

    1. Ndiwechitsilu kwabas iwe mwini thako malawi is for all where were they before his testimony in the court???? U don’t know that we are being ruled by chitsilu ngat iwe

  13. Zitsilu izi zachabechabe zianthu zosakhulupilira Mulungu. Or zitero ziluzabe nkhani imeneyi. Obviously those were not genuine Police officers. Those were cadets dressed in Police Uniforms. Panyopawo agalu anya awona

  14. Ndale za pamalawi za ubulutu, whats that? A AG nzimene mumalilira nazo udindo mbuzi wosamazimvera cisoni tima salare tomwe mumalandito. primitive life

  15. eeeeeeeeeeeeeee apapa zawoneselatu kuti anthuwa anabeladi nanga akupangilanji zimenezi. utsi sufuka popanda moto bwana bendulo more fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  16. We have always said that MPS is a DPP cadet wing and will need to be disbanded at some point. You soon have it think from the public.

  17. This is just propaganda. The MCP has no evidence. Akanakhala nawo atautulutsa kale. People are behaving as if the results are somehow still in the system and Mr Suleman will be revealing them today lol. The results were already generated and if anything just take the figures on the form 60s and tick against the MEC ones. Later do a summation and see if they add up with what was announced by MEC. Otherwise it’s wool over your faces.

    1. Kodi inu anakuuzani ndani kuti umboni onseeee ungabwele tsiku limodzi nanuuuu…….kaphale ndi anzake makani basi kuti ai izi zisachitike aaaaa zaziiii

    2. Ndiwe galu kwabasi.. Mwinanso ndiwe mmodzi mwa ma cadet amene anapita kumeneko ndithu.. Komatu munya ndipo ulendo wake ndi uno ndithu.. Ngati mmadalira gondolosiyo ndiye mwalemba mmadzi …

  18. This unprofesionalism by the Police is why civilians kill them. All because they lose trust in the Police. They are a police service and not a police force for the government. smh

  19. Who sent police to his house, and why?Tell them to be careful they could meet zokhoma.Mukakaba and now caught and you want to intimidate Bendulo.ITC they know one another. All information was given out during busy days of elections.

    1. A dpp mudziwe kuti ur days are numbered musaone ngati Mulungu wa a Malawi akugona tulo.musamale muona zakuda pompano.stupid fools!!!!!

  20. So, if Bendulo is involved in some criminal activity he should not be touched because he’s a key witness in the election case? Is that how we want our laws to be enforced?

    1. Is non payment of city rates a criminal offence? Don`t you know that even Jane Ansa has not even paying city rates since 2014? Do you send 20 policemen just for city rates???

  21. 20 armed police officers to enforce payment of city rates? Stupidity of the highest order by the pumbwa who is going and going to political oblivion

  22. Boza,Just accept mwachepa😷😷.DPP thought the style of rigging that they did was legal being in government. Malawians do not fear what you are.We do not want intimidation. Mwapezeka.Police yiziwa chani

  23. Akunama uyuuuuu. Wayambapo BODZA. Kungoononga mbiri. Koma ngati zilichoncho is bad. But I do expect boma kupanga zimenezo

  24. We have reached a period you can never intimidate people. U think we will fear and fail to give evidence to the court? Be ashamed of yourselves. These are the kicks of a dying horse. You think u can rule this country through threatening people? Never.

  25. This is why those of us Malawians of good thinking, do not want this unprofessional DPP Cadet called Mwapasa NEVER NEVER to be confirmed as Inspector General of Police. Mwapasa is too Lomwelized, he is a die hard DPP supporter which makes him unable to differentiate ethical actions from unethical ones. To Mwapasa, actions such as these are business as usual for our tax financed MPS. These are the very partisan actions that will for ever create the hatred between the Police Officers and the general public. On the other side these are the very actions that are making Professor Peter Muthalika the most unpopular sitting President on political governance in the Southern Part of Africa. Malawians deserve an Inspector General who is professional, non partisan and with highest degree of integrity and ethics.

  26. That’s why parliament need to make sure the next IG confirmed is not a cadet. People can’t be haunted by police for doing the right thing to the nation. A normal and professional Police should actually be surrounding houses of criminals that rigged May elections not those helping to expose the criminals.

  27. What’s the purpose of this article? It doesn’t say anything and it’s meaningless you are telling us the sorrounded his house and then what happened afterwards? Or what are you trying to tell us maybe we should understand it from the journalists point of view

  28. Unpaid city rates, when government departments have huge bills to Escom, Waterboard etc. Is he the only person owing the city money that you sent a battalion.?
