Bedbugs force Malawi University of Science and Technology to close early
Authorities at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) are sending students on early Christmas holiday because of an outbreak of bed bugs.
A memo signed by an official from the registrar’s office, Martha Simbani says the college will close on December 20 and will resume classes on January 6, 2020.
“During the break, management has made arrangements to fumigate the halls of residence due to the outbreak of bed bugs on campus,” says the memo.
The memo says no student will be allowed on campus during the break.
MUST is the latest education institution to be hit by bed bugs after Dowa secondary school which was forced to close a few weeks ago.
Anthu opanda data inu. Bedbugs at must are not geographical phenomena. They can not be georeferenced at Must. In another words, must is a complement of bedbugs. How do you expect kuti ana a xul adikile pa 20 if there is a so called outbreak?…they should keep on suffering for the next 2 weeks?…holiday ya pa 20 to January was already there. Nyasatimes can do better with their reporting. Where do you get the sense of early closing. Most public institutions are closing for the festive period on the same December 20 and will report back on January 6. This is not unique to MUST. On bedbugs, this usually happens where people from different areas stay together and we should applaud the university for periodically fumigating against such pests. Just because it is an S and T university you want them to deal with the bedbugs through Internet of Things, Big Data and other Industry 4.0 methods? Fumigation works and so it… Read more »
