Chaminade secondary school alumni asked to help former school

Chaminade Secondary School in the border district of Karonga, has celebrated its 57th anniversary thanking God for the graces; but, has also asked her former students to come in and assist the school which is rocked with a myriad needs.

Father Joseph Mkinga: William Joseph Chaminade focused on education as a tool for evangelization
The feast of William Joseph Chaminade–the patron saint of the school–is celebrated every year on January 22 and, this year, the day was punctuated by a Eucharist celebration and various activities.
Chaminade is the founder of the Society of Mary and a patron of numerous institutions including Chaminade Secondary School and St Mary’s Karonga Girls Secondary School.
In his remarks, during mass, chaplain of Chaminade Secondary School, who is also chaplain of Karonga St Mary’s Girls Secondary School, Father Joseph Mkinga, said William Joseph Chaminade focused on education as a tool for evangelization.
Said Mkinga: “That is why the Catholic education which is whollistic or integral, has produced so many responsible and productive citizens of this country and beyond. People who are disciplined. People who are equipped in  challenging the society’s wrong values and promoting responsible citizenship.”
And Chaminade Secondary School headmaster, Island Mtambo, much as he thanked God for being with the school for many years admitted the school was marred with a lot of challenges.
“At the moment this school has old structures, small classrooms to accommodate large numbers of students, lacking in more needs to cater for the many students that it is enrolling as a result of its expansion,” said Mtambo.
Mkinga, as chaplain of the school, appealed to people of goodwill especially the alumni to come and assist.
“I strongly appeal to the Chaminade Secondary School alumni and all good willed Malawians to bail out the school from its many needs. This is a school which has produced minds that are helping this country and the world in so many aspects,” said Mkinga.
Chaminade continues to be a school of excellence, a ‘school of champions,’ as it is fondly called. In 2018 it came first in Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with 7 points.
