Chakwera says MCP to commence legal action against MEC, NRB on ‘voter registration fraud’
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is demanding auditing of voters rolls of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and data based on National Registration Bureau (NRB) alleging that it is being tampered with ahead of July 2 fresh presidential elections.
MCP presidential hopeful Lazarus Chakwera told a news conference at the party headquarters in Lilongwe on Wednesday that MEC ‘s voters roll has been contaminated a “fake portal” which contains of about 7 000 children not eligible to vote.
Chakwera said that to ensure that the voters’ roll is clean; the party will ask the court to intervene so that MEC data is disclosed.
He said MCP will not accept MEC to award a “fraudulent” victory to his rival President Peter Mutharika in the re-run and “neither will the people”.
Chakwera said Malawi is already struggling with two battles – Coronavirus and to have credible elections.
“There is need to vote and have clean results but MEC is not doing enough to protect the votes, there is a scheme at MEC that threatens the security of your vote.
“We now have evidence that the voters roll is compromised by buying of IDs and registration of minors,” said Chakwera.
MCP party’s secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka also said the voters roll cleaning exercise will require services of experts.
He said the party has already instructed the legal team to follow up the scam so that there is an audit to the whole data base.
He commended Director of ICT Daudi Suleiman for leading in uncovering of the syndicate.
Suleman said there are also multiple registrations in the NRB system using the same ID number.
He said over 1 million under-aged children were also registered in the NRB system and there are over 12,000 registrants whose bio data is mismatching.
Suleman said the youngest person registered in both MEC and NRB system was born in 2019.
NRB denied claims of vote manipulation.

They will go to court and APM will still be president while they are working with the courts.
If dpp is in again for fraud with MEC then they have failed. This wont happen if you deployed Somanje as we already suspected to manipulate data then you have failed this time around never tamper computers then you will be caught pant down. Same like your minister Botoman was conniving with Jappie to steal money meant for Malawians caught pant down.
By the time these elections are done and the winner is sworn in Mutharika would have already been in power for over 2 years shuwa. It seems to be one court case after the other.
As a seasoned IT guru, I have to acknowledge the work.being done by Daud. Malawians lets alway thrive for excellence. Lets clean up our systems..you may suffer now but its for the benefit of everyone in the long run. MEC and NRB are hosting critical public data. No one must be allowed to manipulatr this data. The solution to possible rigging is to announce results at Constituency level before they are electronically transmitted to the National Tally Centre. It is during the transmittal that rigging is likely to happen by corrupting the figures with bogus, ghost MEC votes. Opposition must insist on this even it means parliamentary approval.

How can someone who was born in 2019 go to register
How do you know he was born in 2019. In Malawi identifying the true age of a person is difficult. With no proper birth records we rely on how someone looks. In a country where stuntunting is vast, it really is a challenge. Even if these individuals are brought forth, it’s your word against theirs unless they indeed are 10 year olds. However how do you differentiate between a 16, 17 or 18 year old. It really is a challenge.

In Malawi we cannot hold better elections than that held on 21 may 2019, unfortunately the concourt annulled. Chisankho chikubwelachi a court will know what a poor election looks like. It will be worse than 2019 quality wise and cost the nation more.

And yet it is common knowledge that 90% of the 18 million Malawians are vulnerable. Does this government really care?
