Malawi exam fraud forces govt to cancels MSCE, to be re-administered in March 2021: K4.5 bn
Malawi National Examination Board (Maneb) in conjunction with Ministry of Education has cancelled the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) following a leakage of this year’s school examination papers and Minister of Education Agness Nyalonje has said the MSCE will be re-administered from March 9 2021.
Briefing journalists in Lilongwe on Wednesday, Nyalonje said government will come up with new examination that can be trusted and accepted by everyone.
According to the Minister, government will need K4.5 billion to administer new examination.
Nyalonje said the Tonse Alliance government is committed to source money for new examination despite that it will be a big task.
She said President Lazarus Chakwera is passionate about education and wants to see the exams re-administered.
Malawians have pexpressed anger that the examinations board failed to put in place security measures to prevent leakage.
Maneb executive director Gerald Chiunda told reporters that there is high possibility that the leakage was initiated at the board and there is need to properly investigate the matter.
He has since expressed disappointment over the conduct, saying government invests a lot in the administration of examination.
Chiunda said those behind leakage must be taken to task.

As a nation we need to come up with a solution that will bring to an end the problem of exam leakage. We should embrace on what other countries are doing. The level of security should be overhauled.

From my knowledge, a C.E.O may not and ever leak the so called exam papers, but i think the junior staff could. But because you said the guy is blue, that’s the only crime he is having here. And maybe, It is the Tonse alliance guys who did this, in order for them to paint black those suspected to be cadets at the institution.

No need to back Chiunda here. He is the top most man at Maneb and whatever happened he is accountable. I wonder why here in Malawi we tend to back CEOs who make blunders. I have seen a number of football managers taken the blame for losses. Have you heard a minister or PS or CEO taking the blame here in Malawi? This the biggest problem we have. Leaders must learn to accept their failures and that will give those to succeed them a lesson and room to improve. Gerald Chiunda must go. Those responsible must be arrested and prosecuted. That is the only way to punish. Do you that to ignore is an action? To ignore is very dangerous because people responsible feel that all is okay.
Chiunda is the best Ceo maneb has ever had. He has completely changed the face of maneb and brought complete financial disciple to the institution. It is one of the Bnb parastatals that are not govt reliant. You want him out just because of where he was born you say he is blue – how will Malawi develop ????

Just fire the entire top brass of MANEB. These guys are pro-DPP Government and they have nothing to do with credibility whatsoever. Keep them at your own risk. They have a hidden motive from their masters and please know their secret is too deep. They should now be scheming another way of doing it. Would you wonder if the best performing schools would be Mulanje and Phalombe simply by leaking the papers not necessarily to students but teachers. I can foretell as follows: Exam papers will be given to teachers from the Lhomwe belt to prepare their students to pass with flying colours. Here is how? Closely related (not real exam papers) will be given to students for them to practice for a very long time until they master the answers. Come exams, they will see all questions similar to the ones they practiced. Hooooly! the students will chew their pens in exhilaration. In the same spirit, students from Lhomwe belt in other schools nationwide will be secretly targeted with such papers and mpsssssssssssssuuuuu best students 6pts, 7pts…………10pts from Phalombe, Mulanje, Chiradzulu etc. Please note that DPP is a more than a system. It is a belief as they planned way back…. Do you wonder why Chaminade Sec School is full of their own? How about Robert Blake, Likuni, Mtendere, Box 2, Dedza etc….Come on wake up Tonse Government………….Fire these people with no mercy, They have failed their job..
Honestly we are a sick and sick and sick nation. Moti up to 2020 since we started having these very expensive and inconvinciencing leaks over 25 years ago, these governements have not yet benchmarked how other counties, not in the west, but within the very sub saharan Africa administer such examinations? I feel for the taxpayer, the students and the parents who have invested their hard earned money and effort, only to have the resources go down the drain like this. Zoona Malawi we are able kutaya nthawi and resources like this in the year of our Lord 2020 chifukwa cha leakage? We are a very sick nation and this nation will never recover. The 4.5 billion could have ably been channeled towards health care, the looming hunger and countless lives served. I cry
Scapegoating want help this government. I think it’s time you realise that mindset change should not just be rhetoric but solid and candid actions . Have the intention and execute. Laz is our president for now and he has to realize that and not fear taking some steps for fear of SKC. This Laz guy appears to apologetic and apprehensive of the subtle SKC.

What will be the punishment to MANEB officials? Why are you only concerned with the 4.5b kwacha that government will spend again without calculating how much parents will lose again for the same exercise and even the schools?
