Malawi female whistlers selected for CAF African Championship Finals

Two Malawian female referees have been assigned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate the 8th Women African Championship finals scheduled to take place in Equatorial Guinea.

The good news has been revealed through a media statement released by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Tuesday.

“We have the pleasure to inform you those Malawian women referees Grace Msiska and Bernadette Kwimbira have been selected by CAF to officiate in the matches of 8th women African championship final tournament which is scheduled to take place in Equatorial Guinea from 28th October to 11th November, 2012,” reads part of the statement.

According to the statement, the two referees are expected to undergo physical fitness test on 26th October before they are allowed to officiate the matches.

FAM has since promised to help the referees in preparation so that they are fit to pass the test.

“FAM will ensure that the selected referees should be in best physical condition when they will be arriving at the tournament, “reads the statement.

In a related development, FAM has sent three male and one female referee to Tanzania to attend to a FIFA referees instructors course currently underway in Tanzania.

FAM Chief Executive Officer-CEO Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed the development in a press statement made available to Nyasa Times.

Nyirenda said the course got underway on Monday this week.

The four referees taking part at the course are Patrick Kapanga undergoing Instructors course, McGovern Mpeni- referees Instructions course, Martha Nyekanyeka-Women referees instructions course and Moffat Champiti-Physical Physical Instructors Course.
