Malawi Pres. Banda admires Zimbabwe First Lady on helping underprivileged children
Malawi President Joyce Banda on Thursday expressed appreciation and admiration of the work the Zimbabwe’s First Lady, Grace Mugabe is doing to give a second chance to underprivileged children in Zimbabwe.
The Malawian leader made the remarks in Harare at the Grace Mugabe Junior School and the children’s home, where she toured and took a seat in a classroom together with President Robert Mugabe.
According to presidential assistant press officer, Fallys Ngalauka, President Banda said having lived her life helping the under-privileged, she is happy to see that Mugabe is helping children who need care in her country.
“I have done charity work all my life and I am impressed with what I have seen here,” said President Banda.
She said privilege people to take care of the impoverished and the disadvantaged.
Mugabe briefed her on how she came up with the idea, adding that it is her own small way of contributing towards rescuing abandoned children.
“I know I cannot look after all children in Zimbabwe, but with the little resource I have, I will ensure that the few children I am able to reach have a better life,” said Mugabe
Mugabe also stressed the importance of the role of women in moulding morally upright children and the importance of maintaining an intact family unit in bringing up children.
The Grace Mugabe Children’s Home, which consists of 30 modern houses, has 49 children aged between less than one year and three, and has 19 caregivers who live under supervision by a matron.
