Silver prey on Tigers: TNM Super League Malawi
TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers recovered from a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Blantyre United to thrash Azam Tigers 3-1 on Sunday in a match played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The Bankers, showed their seriousness from the word go as they displayed glass mower football originating from defence, midfield all the way upfront.
Despite the vocal support from ganyu supporters, Tigers were blunt in front and shaky in defence.
Silver scored first in the 8th minute when Ndaziona Chatsalira’s hard shot kissed the roof of the net
leaving Nenani Juwawo in Tigers goal helpless.
The Bankers were at it again in the 37th minute with Jester Mulima’s goal.
Tigers could have reduced the scores in the 43th minute when Lawrence Milanzi’s well curved cross from the right flank found Mike Chitani but failed to beat Charles Swini in goals.
Came second half, Tigers came with news ideas as they kept the Bankers on the tight rope in the first 4 minutes no wonder Clement Ng’ombe reduced the scores giving force hopes to the ganyu fans, who most of the times chanted, ‘Abambo! Abambo” referring to Tigers team manager Robin Alufandika.
As Tigers were hoping to secure an equalizer Frank Banda proved them wrong in the 26th minute of the second half with a beautiful tap in to the satisfaction of the Bankers coach Stain Chirwa, who nodded his head twice.
Moment of drama came in the 84th minute when Tigers coach Leo Mpulula turned himself into a ball boy at an extent of invading the Bankers bench to collect the ball accussing the ball boys of delaying the proceeding of the match.
This development did not go well with assistant coach Francis Songo, who exchanged some words with Mpulula.
After the match Tigers coach Leo Mpulula said:“The same old story, our strikers are always jittery inside the box instead of shooting from a far. All the same we will rectify our problems in our next match.”
Silver Strikers coach Stain Chirwa vowed to maintain the winning streak.
“We will work hard in the next games because our aim is to defend the title. Ia m also delighted with my boys for recovering after yesterday’s defeat,” said Chirwa.
