Chakwera storms north: Says MCP is ready to govern
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Dr Lazarous Chakwera has travelled to the north where he will address a couple of political meetings calling on Malawians to vote for the party in elections so May polls that it should return to power.
Addressing supporters in Mzuzu on Thursday when he arrived in the northern city, Chakwera said he wants to change the nation for the better.
He MCP has strategies and programmes that can bail Malawians out of the various social economic challenges they are currently facing.
“We in MCP are ready to provide the leadership, new vision and direction is to transform Malawian lives in all sectors,” he said.
He said it was a pity that Malawi is currently facing acute food shortage, commodity price hike, maternal challenges, regionalism and frustrating transport and unemployment challenges due to the failure of the current leadership to meaningfully transform the lives of the country’s citizens.
He said under his leadership, MCP will transform Malawi from a low income country to a middle income country once he gets into government come 2014.
“Today corruption is a political business that transforms a few greedy politicians from poverty to prosperity; it is my wish that under the leadership of MCP, it should be the people who should be transformed by bringing in tangible development and prosperity to the grassroots,” said Chakwera.
He criticized the Joyce Banda administration for what he said failing to maintain standards for the infrastructural developments in form of schools and colleges, hospitals, maize silos-where maize is rotten and agriculture schemes.
Chakwera also talked of the need to revamp the agriculture sector to spearhead economic development.
“MCP is ready to govern again,” he stressed.
