Flames face Harambe stars in CECAFA first game

Malawi national team, the Flames will open their Council for East and Central Football Associations Senior Challenge Cup campaign against Kenya’s Harambe Stars on November 28 in a Group C clash at the National Stadium. in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The tournament kicks off November 25 in Dar es Salaam.

Second group match for Malawi will be on November 29 against Sudan.

Quarterfinals will be played on December 5 and 6, semis on December 8, third place playoff on December 9 while final will be played the next day.

Kinnah: Happy he would assess new players

The Flames had earlier failed to confirm their participation but just managed to enter before the fixtures were released.

“By a copy of this letter, we confirm our participation in this year’s Cecafa tournament. It’s important for us to take part,” read part of a letter by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to Cecafa’s office.

Last weekend, the Malawian National Sports Council recommended to FAM to reconsider participation because of the limited time available to prepare and seek approval following Cecafa’s late invitation.

Malawi are are also Kenya’s opponents in the 2014 World Cup group phase.

Meanwhile,  Flames coach Kinnah  Phiri shas hinted that he will call to his squad current op goal scorer in the flagship league  and a clear favorite for the golden boot award, Ishamel Thindwa of Epac United.

Malawi are three-time champions of the  CECAFA  Challenge Cup.
