Bishop Mkhori celebrates Golden Jubilee
Faithful of Roman Catholic from Chikhwawa District were on Saturday gathered at Chikhwawa diocese to celebrate the golden jubilee of priesthood for emeritus Bishop Felix Mkhori, who clocks 50 years.
Speaking after the Eucharistic celebration mass, Bishop of Chikhwawa Diocese Peter Musikuwa commended Mnkhori for his dedication during his entire period he has been a priest and Bishop.
“Let us take an example of Bishop Mkhori who has been dedicated and always speak the truth. He is such a respectable Bishop in our society because of his commitment when serving God and people,” said Musikuwa.
Musikuwa also urged priests to be committed in their priesthood if they want to be successful in their work.
In his remarks, Mnkhori asked seminarians to take their challenges in life and work for God saying such a path is not rosy.
“You can make it to the priesthood and become a Bishop one day avoid you be faithful, committed to yourself. We need many of you to join priesthood as you are aware that we have a few priests in our dioceses the whole country,” said Mkhori.
Mnkhori also urged catholic faithful to always pray hard to God, “Let us unite and pray hard to God for our country, love and peace.”
Bishop Mnkhori was ordained as a priest in 1961 at Limbe cathedral.
During his time as a Bishop he served for two dioceses namely Chikhwawa and Lilongwe Arc Diocese where he retired.
Bishop Mkhori, who was born on 24 August 1931, was ordained as a priest on 8 September 1961 at Limbe Cathedral.
On 29 September 1977, Mkhori was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop for Chikhwawa Diocese before being appointed also as Titular Bishop of Sicca Veneira on 29 September 1977.
On 12 February 1979, Mkhori was appointed as Bishop of Chikhwawa Diocese before being transferred to Lilongwe Arc Diocese on 23 January 2001. Mkhori retired on 4 July 2007.
Due to his hard working spirit and intelligent, on 9 October 2011, President Bingu wa Mutharika appointed Mkhori to head the July 20 anti-government protests that ended with 19 people dead.
