Miss Malawi Cape Town: Chuma Kondowe

A 24 year old girl  Chuma Khondowe, was crowned as first   Miss Malawi Cape Town event at Camps Bay High in Cape Town, South Africa on Boxing Day in a highly contested competition where she managed to outclass seven  other contestants.

During the contest,  Charmain Itimu, a 19-year-old from Machinga was voted first princess with Dalitso Mankhambera, a 25-year-old from Nkhata Bay  came second princess.

Chairman of the Malawians Association in Cape Town Dr  Thomas Nyirenda , said his group which is responsible for the welfare of Malawians there, said they  decided to have the beauty pageant “to promote the Malawian culture, tradition and the warm beauty of Malawians.”

Nyirenda’s deputy Harry Chakhaza  said the event will be taking place annually.

Nyasa Events who were given the responsibility organise the contest has promised to have a more better event  this year.

“The event was welcomed by Malawians living in Cape Town. Since the event was launched successfully, we have decided that it is going to be an annual event,”  Nyasa Events director Thoko Kuwali.

Malawian artists in names of Seers Movement and Lean performed  at the event.

  1. Nonsense instead of encouraging the kids to study hard inorder for them to be self dependent in future then a Dr is telling these youngsters to be walking half naked in front of you??????? What culture????!

  3. Dr Thomas Nyirenda, which Malawian culture are you promoting here? I hope being a doctor you must have studied sociology at some stage of your academic journey. Do you remember something like ACULTURATION? The activity in question here is as a result of aculturation. Which in simple terms means abandoning one’s true culture due to xenocentricism in the name mistaken modernity. There is nothing close to Malawian culture, for instance,in the way the girls have half-dressed.
