Malawians heading back to South Africa were being trafficked
The bus, police intercepted in Lilongwe two days ago full of passengers, with some standing, on its way to South Africa, is apparently one of the human trafficking implements used by a syndicate involving some big businessmen in Malawi.

Investigations by the Lilongwe News Agency (LINA) have revealed that among the 73 passengers, there were some who had just been repatriated by government from the same country, while others were going there for the first time to look for greener pastures despite seven Malawians having been killed and scores evacuated due to xenophobic attacks.
Eye witnesses said the bus came to a garage at Biwi Triangle to service an exhaust pipe enroute to South Africa but what surprised many people around the garage was that the passengers were not coming out.
“Actually they were pulling over bus window curtains so that nobody sees them which attracted us all to be curious,” disclosed one welder at the garage.
He said when rumour went round at Biwi Triangle about this bus and its strange passengers, many people got interested and came to see what was happening. Among the people who came was Kandapako Banda who alerted the police.
“I am in-charge of an organization that helps poorest Malawians by giving them small loans for businesses, and obviously when I saw what was happening I alerted the police because it was disappointing to see Malawians going back to South Africa where many have already died,” explained Kandapako Banda.
Talking to welders who work at the garage, the reasons why these people wanted to go to South Africa were various.
“Some of them came back last week and wanted to go back to collect their belongings which were left behind. Others want to go back because they have nothing here in Malawi, they have no house, no food, no capital for business, they have nothing,” said one eye witness who didn’t want to be named.
Still there were some going there for the first time to start a new life despite whatever is happening now in South Africa.
Police Public Relations Officer for Lilongwe, Kingsley Dandaula, has confirmed that they have intercepted a Volvo bus registration number NA 4151 whose owner is not yet traced.
Dandaula says the bus is at Immigration Department for verification. He did not elaborate.
He told LINA that when they got a tip on the issue they rushed to the place but the driver and conductor of the bus bolted when they knew police were coming for them.

In my last views over the unfortunate xenophobic conflict a week ago,I warned the government and the people of Malawi not to become confrontational, but reach a peaceful solution to the problem with our brothers and sisters in South Africa. It seems, however, the government and its people, rushed to unbalanced judgement demanding compensation for the loss of life of some of our people despite unequivocal apology from President Jacob Zuma.It is sad that the issue has now reached its zenith creating a sense of mistrust and unimosity between our two countries. It is a fact that overwhelming majority of our in South Africa, are illegal immigrants living in the country at the mercy of the State. In my views,I observed that, most of the returnees will forthwith attempt to make trips back to South Africa in disguise.Indeed, this is what is taking place now.It is absolutely foolhardy to think that these people will be taken care of ,by the Malawi government which has no vision or clout. With its dysfunctional economic footing after 51 years of the so- called independence. With South African government contemplating imposing Visa on Malawians, things will be ugly to Malawians who would to travel to South Africa in search of livelihood. We as well call Malawi : The COLD HEART OF AFRICA.
I don’t know who is going to change this world to be a better place for all, question in my head why people would like risk their lives?i do understand ……,but it’s not easy too, people don’t see their prosperious around them.life will always be like climbing a mountain, people are facing obstacles[povaty]helper a miles away.shame

Sungafule Njuchi osalumidwa ayi amene akuyerekeza Malawi ndi South Africa ndi umbuli chabe. I was just laughing when I wached Geoffrey Kapusa saying that these people they receive as little as R3000 how much does he get working for MBC? Cos that R3000 is almost K100,000-00 so where in Malawi somebody who has never gone to School can get such money?????????? So I think there is a reason that is making people trekking down south. Get the facts straight & see the reasoning.

It’s very bad news to hear. Do Malawians have any choice? I don’t think so, the only our government can offer to its people is a traveling passport, nothing else. It’s not a surprise that the price for a Malawian passport is very expensive. There is no jobs in our country. So my fellow Malawians please don’t blame our brothers and sisters who runaway out of our beautiful country. They are trying to survive. Blame our government for all this mess.

The Poverty level that Malawi has reached it is like Malawi is a war torn country. Secondly, economically Malawians are the most oppressive citizens in the world. For example ,the computer bought at R1000 which is about K33000 is bought K300000 here in Malawi, If you can buy the same air time money value here in Malawi you can spend about 6 times air time in South Africa ,A shopkeeper in South Africa of similar duties is paid 10 times as his counterpart in Malawi etc. Malawians are leading very harder life in Malawi than in South Africa. Those in better position in Malawi can not see this and can argue from their point of view but from objective point of view we have to understand some of these Malawians. I greatly sympathize with them.

The problem is that our country is very poor ,we can’t do business all us who is going to buy .The best way government must create more job for young people and reduce prices of fertilizer because we depend on farming so that everyone can afford to take care of their families.malawi is peacefull country but the poorest cash gate has caused a lot of damages,we were not suffering the time when kamuzu was in charge it was better than now .

Ine ndili kuno kujoni working with a nice company but i regret coming here not because of xenophobia but because of how i have since been treated by these country owners. I have a story to tell when i come back though they say drunk tell no tales

It’s factually incorrect that of the 7 people who regrettably lost their lives amidst xenophobic unrest is South Africa were all Malawian nationals. In actual fact, 3 of these were South Africans. This is the kind of distortion which forein media put out there to damage South Africa’s reputation. The majority of South Africans are xenophobic.Just the other day my aunt showed up with Malawian guy.We invited him in and enjoyed meals. When the xenophobic conflict flred up, I went to look for him and his brother to make sure that they were safe.It turned out that they were safe as their aeria was not affected.
it’s very sad that this is hapening
the muthalica rule must protect malawian citizens trying to go back to SA by putting restricting measures in all border posts. keep your loafers within your borders, know that zwelithini just initiated but what zuma said may aggraviate the situation in SA because zuma is never stoping his ilate youth but he wants muthalika to stop his desperate youth from fleeing there. So police must book the ungratified 6, arrest the bus operators and tell us who those without passports really are. I feel pity of this docile nation, dont cheat that its warm heart, its hell not now!!!!
Nde wina akuti let’s boycot South African goods and shops, kkkkkkk! And wina says Zuma is wrong for faulting the contries where the migrants come from, kekekekekeke!

Apparently all these unwanted migrations to RSA and the re-occurence of xhenophobia therein are a typical deep-rooted signal of bad governance both in Africa in general and in the RSA in particular.Shame on you selfish and corrupt technocrats and politicians. You are to blame for the restlessness of these innocent people.Stop your dirty politics to stop the unnecessary migration/trekking, xhenophibia and human trafficking.

Let’s solve our problems here in malawi. Government must pay enough wages to demonstrate the public sector. We have people having a lot of money but they are failing to pay better wages.malawians let’s love one another.

Looking at this story,I think Jacob zuma is right, solution to xenophobia is not just pointing fingers at the host country -south Africa,no,the solution lies with us here, look at what is happening now,if mutharika really went to school,he will realize that what zuma said is a bitter truth.
Anthu amenewa boma liwasiye adzionere wokha
Im a south African visiting my Malawian wife in the city of Blantyre, when my wife was on the net reading this news article I was so shocked and surprised to read how some malawians.wanna go back to SA. Of course the country is beautiful and plenty job opportunities, but there is nothing important in life than peace and tranquillity. There in SA there is no peace, o fail sometimes to answer my own smartphone all because someone might jus end my life for it but here in Malawi I’ve notes there is heavenly peace and the people are so welcoming. That’s why when I read this news I was shocked why on earth someone will choose to go to a war zone than stay home where there is peace, love and harmony.
Lastly let me apologise on behalf of my countrymen for the bad and barbaric violence that took place in SA to all Malawians and Africa, please understand that those savages do not and will never portray the true picture of a South African.

Malawi is a pathetic country, with no regard for human beings. Zuma was absolutely right. There are countries like ours who exist just to feed on other countries hard work. Yet we have a president and his bunch of clowns called
ministers living an opulence lifestyle, jetting from one continent to another on chartered planes, sleeping in most expensive hotels on the planet and you do nothing to correct evils in the pathetic country. You can call Zuma names all you want all day long but he was right on the money.

Poor souls
People from mzimba(ngonis) they go to south Africa to work as gardeners, they can’t write or read, they have never been to any town or city in this country but they choose to be trafficked to south Africa to work useless jobs. Let all of them go since people from mzimba are ngonis(ngunis) and are South Africans just like ndebeles of Zimbabwe they both run away from Chaka Zulu during war. I hear when they get to south Africa they say they are tumbukas! My foot!!!is their any tumbuka with watermelon brains? Farmers.
Nosense
And yet the government of Malawi is contemplating on buying a jet with very high maintenance costs instead of creating job opportunities within the country. This is what Allan Ntata calls lack of planning and lack of direction.
