Activist slams Malawi govt for shielding thieves

A veteran human rights activist has slammed the government for shielding thieves by ignoring Admarc board recommendation to fire its chief executive officer Foster Mulumbe.

Human Rights Consultative Council (HRCC) executive director Robert Mkwezalamba said this after the government ignored Admarc recommendation to fire  Mulumbe as chief executive officer following his connection to the Zambia maize deal.

“We all know his role in the Zambia maize deal, we therefore wonder why he is not fired after recommendations from the board of Admarc, from the presidential inquiry on Zambia maize and recommendations from a parliamentary joint committee on Zambia maize,” said Mkwezalamba.

He said this raises more questions as to why the government was shielding Mulumbe.

Comptroller of Statutory Corporations Stewart Ligomeka said his office only received the recommendations last week and have today been forwarded to the Office of the President and Cabinet.

Mulumbe was fired from Admarc two months ago but continues to receive his monthly salary and he holds on to official vehicle and other benefits.
