Atupele Muluzi political comeback causes storm in UDF

Politician Atupele Muluzi’s decision to bounce back into politics is causing a storm in United Democratic Front (UDF) where had been its leader.

UDF president Lilian Patel has declared that she will not allow any over-enthusiastic supporters advancing selfish gains to drum up support for any candidate in the party without following our constitution.

Patel was responding to reports that some members are supporting an Atupele Muluzi comeback as UDF president.

“I am completing a six-year term of Muluzi, who voluntarily resigned and handed over the mantle to me.

“Any member of the party is free to contest any position and that will be at the elective convention in August 2023,” said Patel.

Patel said she will not allow anyone to create parallel structures in the pursuit of positions.

She said Muluzi remains a bonafide member of the party and is free to contest for any position but said there are over-enthusiastic people who are campaigning for their preferred candidates for personal gains.
