Bullets through, Reds stroll into Presidential Cup semi-final

Big Bullets on Sunday beat Bvumbwe Research to go through to the Presidential Cup semi-finals, Zomba based Red Lions have also qualified after a 1-0 win over the surprise packages of the competition Super Eagles.

Bullets have set up a last-four showdown with Moyale Barracks.

The Bullets played the more fluent football and man of the moment Gabadinyo Mhango, was in the picture again when he netted a hat-trick with the other one from Diverson Mlozi to book the place in the semis.

From the first whistle, Big Bullets were determined to find the back on the net, as they kept their opponent on the tight rope.

The People’s team led by Mhango, Heston Munthali and Diverson Mlozi upfront was unstoppable, as Chimango Kayira and James ‘Terminator’ Chilapondwa were left with the mantle to keep the engine room boiling.

Chilapondwa was on top of things in the midfield by denying Bvumbwe Research’s Rafiq Mussa any room.

It was not surprising when Mlozi was first to score after receiving a well taken cross from Mhango.

Before the end of the first half it was Mhango, who was a darling to the Biafra Stand with a brace.

Bvumbwe Research tried to prove a point but Vincent Chinthenga and Mayeso Mphanje lacked composure in front of the goal.

In the second half, it was the 17-year old Mhango again who hammered another goal, to make it a hat-trick.

Bullets coach, Eding’ton Ng’onamo couldn’t hide his happiness, “I am more than happy because we are close to our aim. We want to clinch this cup and nothing will stop us.”

Bob Mpinganjira coach for Bvumbwe said: “We lost because we lost concentration otherwise my boys tried what they could have.”

In other matches, Red Lions struggled to boot-out Super Eagles 1-0 to set a date with Escom United, who won 2-1 to Mafco FC.

Lions will need to improve on some wasteful finishing and careless defending here if they are to stun Escom and book a place in the final.
