Commentators urge Malawi govt to make fresh stand on AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine use

Social commentators are urging the government to  make a fresh stand on use of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine as some countries are suspending its use over reports of complications.

President Chakwera:  No physical  distance as he was vaccinated

Malawi rolled out the vaccination exercise on Thursday with President Lazarus Chakwera, his Vice Saulos Chilima and other senior government officials being the first to be vaccinated.

However, latest media reports are indicating that countries such as Thailand, Denmark and Norway have suspended the vaccine over reports of blood clots, despite there being no evidence over the same.

Meanwhile, an epidemic expert Titus Divala is condemning the tendency of flouting social distancing regulations during presidential events in the country.

On Thursday when President Lazarus Chakwera was receiving the Covid-19 jab, he was surrounded by various officials who disregarded Covid protocols in order to witness the Malawi leader getting vaccinated.

This tendency has also been noted during election campaign rallies ahead of the by-elections later this month.

There are fears that such conduct will fuel local transmissions and a possible third wave of the pandemic.

Social commentators, basically useless rumour mongers with too much time on their hands. Government can not jump everytime some country or village decides to pause (not stop) using a vaccine or medicine because it wants to conduct tests or verify some issue. Unfortunately, in a country where the majority still believe in witchcraft and other unseen crap, it is difficult to share scientific facts. So my advise to those who dont want the vaccine is please do not take it, those of us who want it will happily line up when our turn comes up. You can instead go and… Read more »

Those who do not want the vaccine should just shut up. You simply want people to join you idiots. There is negative talk about AstraZaneca because it is British and Britain pulled out of EU and the Germans want to market their product PfizerBioNtech.

Firstly, it’s only one batch that might have caused the problem with blood clots and that has been removed from service. Secondly, look at the millions of deaths the virus has caused worldwide. The vaccine is preventing more deaths so why wouldn’t you seize the chance to take it? No brainer!!!

Italy is experiencing a third wave of the Covid-19 and has shut about half of the country to economic or sporting activities.

It was chance for people to be visible to the president because it appears the president is forgetting those who helped him during the campaigns and now favouring his inlaws for plum jobs in governments

There seems nowhere I can see the so called commentators talking about the stand therein apart from Titus Divala condemning the issue of people not adhering to physical distance and not putting on mask all the time. The issue of other countries experiencing complications should not make us stop unless such complications are registered in our fold. Therefore, it will be foolhardy of highest order to starting flip flopping on this. Science is not fiction or wild beliefs.
