Ex RBM Governor Ligoya’s father dies at 82
Former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Dr Perks Ligoya has lost a father.
According to a statement from the family, the senior Ligoya died on Thursday morning at Dr Ligoya’s residence in the low density location of Area 43 in the administrative capital, Lilongwe.
Family sources says he died suddenly.
Born Clemency Khongono Ligoya on 24th December, 1932, the late was a dedicated Catholic faithful and is reported to have contributed a lot to the success of his son, Perks who is one of Malawi’s esteemed economists.
He was Malawi’s central bank governor until the demise of former late president Bingu Wa Mutharika in April this year. New Malawi President Joyce Banda replaced Ligoya with Charles Chuka as governor of the central bank.
According to a statement from the family, burial for the late Ligoya is set for Saturday at his home, Ntanangale Village, TA Nchilamwela in the mountainous tea growing district of Thyolo.
