FAM impressed with team performances as SR select win Rough Diamond

Southern Region Football League Select on Sunday became the inaugural winners of the newly established developmental Rough Diamond Tournament whose organisers are the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).

The tournament featured four select teams comprised of best players in the three regional leagues namely Simama Northern Region Football League, Chipiku Central Region Football League, Chitetezo Mbawula Southern Region Football League and national First Capital Bank Under 20 League and was played at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.

FAM Competitions Manager and Media Officer Gomezgani Zakazaka told Nyasa Times on Monday that the the initiative which aimed at Polishing and exposing raw talent looks very promising.

“The players especially the Under 20 select showed great potential. FAM had put in place a technical study group that included flames coach RVG and head coaches of junior national teams [Deklerk] Nsakakuwona and Meke [Mwase] who analysed all the six games]” said Zakazaka adding that the group will work with Technical Director John Kaputa to come with a technical report on the performance of all players.

According to Zakazaka, the outstanding players will be considered for  national teams.

Overall, he said the matches were so exciting with lots of goals and with good patronage.

He further revealed that the tournament will be an annual event.

FAM took care of all expenses including the regional camping, transport, meals, Lilongwe accommodation of all the teams, Security and venue hiring among others.
