Growing organic fertilizer company cherishes Malawi International Trade Fair

A rapidly growing organic fertilizer production company, Funani Organic Fertilizer has louded its first participation to the annual Malawi International Trade Fair.

In an interview with Nyasa Times, the company’s Director Ezra Funani said the fair was not only an eye opener to then but also a window to meet prospective customers.

“It was a wonderful experience because as first time participants, we had to learn from those who are already in the market,” said Funani whose company started producing the fertilizer three years ago.

He added that “it was also through the fair where we have learnt how popular our fertilizer is. We had a lot of both small and large famers visiting our stand and placing orders. There was also a lot of demands from different farming clubs and cooperatives for same and we have been challenged to satisfy the demand.”

The fertilizer is being sold at K6000 per K50kg bag with over 60 outlets worldwide.

Financial said the company started with the production of 3000 bags but due to demand they sols over 150 000  bags last growing season and they are expected to increase this year due to public.

Organic gardening emphasizes cultivating the farm so that it sustains enriching soil, plants and beneficial insects which is achieved by avoiding the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, and using products that nurture the farm soil and the organisms in it.

“We are ready and geared to produce more fertilizer so that farmers should enjoy the benefits of this cheap product,” said Financial whose head office is in Lilongwe opposite Simama Hotel.

He said they are planning to open another production plant in Blantyre next week.

Malawi’s Trade Fair was launched in 1987, and is organised by Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI).

There are at least 150 companies at the Trade Fair making their exhibitions with 15 foreign companies
