Lions feast with patients at Bwaila hospital

Lions Club of Capital City (LCCC) on Saturday provided lunch to 353 in-patients at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe.

The club prepared food such as  rice, chicken, beef and nsima, and provided fruits and drinks to the patients admitted in the wards.

Speaking in an interview , the club’s president Pierre Mbisa said this was done as one way of celebrating the birthday of the founder of Lions Club International, Mervin Jones who was born on January 13.

“We celebrated here because Bwaila hospital treats a lot of patients around Lilongwe City and from the surrounding areas.

“Some of them come from far and it is difficult for them to have nutritious meals as their relatives are very far to bring such food to them,” Mbisa said.

He added that apart from the patients not being able to afford a good meal, the hospital alone cannot manage to provide a balanced diet all the time as they have other things that need their attention such as purchase of drugs.

This, he explained, was also one way of supporting the hospital, saying for treatment to work better there is need for a good diet.

One of the beneficiaries, Cecilia Madalitso, expressed gratitude to the Lions Club, saying one of the challenges that she has been facing since she was admitted to the hospital was lack of balance diet.

“I came from Mtandire and it is hard to get a balanced diet as we have to buy but we don’t have enough money to do so every day,” she said .
