Mother raped, hacked to death in Chikhwawa
What started as one of the normal days for 42-year-old mother, Chrissy Yonasi, ended brutally after her life was prematurely terminated.
The woman, from Kanseche Village, T/A Lundu in Chikhwawa district, was hacked to death with a hoe as she returned from a rice field on Tuesday.
Chikhwawa Police spokesperson, Sunday Nguluwe, confirmed the development, saying late Yonasi was pronounced dead upon arrival at Illovo Sugar Clinic in Nchalo Trading Centre.
He said the deceased asked her daughter, in whose company she was, to cycle home and drop some items they had and then pick her later.
But when the daughter cycled back to collect her mother, she did not find her and went back to report to her father.
According to Nguluwe, the father mobilised some members from the village and launched a search.
“She was discovered in a maize field with serious injuries. They rushed her to Illovo Sugar Clinic but she was declared dead on arrival,” explained the police spokesperson.
According to postmortem results, the late Yonasi died due to severe loss of blood.
The results further indicated that the deceased was raped before being hacked with a hoe.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the main suspect 36-year-old Keson Moyo after a tip off from some villagers.
The suspected murderer, from Chapilira village in the area of TA Malemia in Nsanje district is currently on remand at Chikhwawa Police Station.
