Malga new members vow to fight council funds abuse: Mayor Ndipoh defeats Chaziya
Newly elected members of Malawi Association of Local Government (Malga) has vowed to stamp out abuse of funds and corruption in councils and enhance transparency and accountability.
Blantyre City Council Mayor Wild Ndipoh said this on Sunday in Mzuzu after he floored Samson Chaziya in Malga chaipersonship elections.
Chaziya, an opposition Malawi Congress Party council bowed out to pave way for Ndipoh, a ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councillor.
Chaziya has been in office for two and half years.
Ndipoh said the rampant reports of thefts of council money was disturbing and retrogressive.
The graft busting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau recenty arrested the district commissioner for Mangochi and other officias on allegations of theft of council money.
Malga chief executive officer Charles Chunga said the two and half years councillors have been in office have been a learning process after a 10 year absence without them.
